... Once you finished reading through my review of my friend Kate's awesome EP ...

I listened to Lindsey Stirling's new Christmas album, Warmer In The Winter, on Spotify.

I thought it was really good!

The album is a blend of pop, jazz, big band, and classical styles and sounds.

I think it's her most classical and well-orchestrated album to date. It's certainly less synth-/grunge-heavy than her previous albums.

Lindsey is of course awesome, but what distinguishes this album from her others is really the orchestration. There are some lovely moments and some epic ones! It reminds me in some ways of the Celtic Woman "Voices of Angels" treatment.

Like her recent albums, a number of the tracks have singers. The guest singers are good, though perhaps not spectacular.

Lindsey's playing style is similar to her previous albums, although it sounds like she's added a few new tricks!

Some people may not feel the same way, but this is my favourite Lindsey Stirling so far.

Here's the link to the album on Spotify:

And in case that's not enough to wet your appetite, here's a new music video promoting the album:

And here's Lindsey talking about the album:

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  Great News for SECRET GARDEN fans:

 FionnualaSherry@secretgardenmus
Getting prepared to head bk to Norway to begin production on our new CD. Excited to record again

The best news is that Fionnuala has totally recovered from her scary injuries.
The recent China tour was a total success, so maybe... hopefully... a US tour in the coming year?  (please?)

I have exciting news for you Chloe Lowery (Rocktopia / Trans-Siberian Orchestra singer):

Her solo album is recorded and in the mixing process now. She's got a PledgeMusic campaign (much like Mairead Nesbitt did) to support the album and LOTS of cool stuff! https://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/chloelowery

After Rocktopia finishes its Broadway run, the plan is to tour Rocktopia this fall, but before that, Chloe Lowery is planning to do her own tour, possibly this summer!

My singer-friend Kate Steinway is nominated for an award!

Actually, she's up for TWO LA Music Critic Awards:
- Best Holiday Video
- Fan Favorite

You can vote by going to the article on lamusiccritic.com below and leaving this comment on that web page:

She's amazing and I'd really appreciate it if you could vote for her.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Here's a bit of info on the EP Kate recently released:

Kate recently released her first studio EP, True North!

The CD comes in a very nice cardboard case.

There are 4 tracks on the EP:
1. Hurricane
2. Tiny Home
3. True North
4. Wayfaring Woman
5. Young Heroes

If you've had a chance to watch any of her online shows, you'll be familiar with at least a few of these original songs.

The opening track, Hurricane was released as a single recently (coincidentally, it was around the same time as Harvey struck, which made it a tiny bit awkward to promote for a while). I don't want to give away too much, but the hurricane is symbolic and you don't want to mess with one Wink It's a fun song.

Mary Bee sings backing vocals on Wayfaring Woman and Tiny Home. Kate does a bit of her own backing vocals as well. I believe Kate's harmonizer also gets used in a few places.

My two favourite tracks were Wayfaring Woman and Young Heroes. The backing does a good job of complimenting Kate. It's exceptionally effective in those two songs. Those songs also do the best job of showing off Kate's incredibly lovely voice. Young Heroes has a deeply soothing and ethereal sound.

The album has an overall country feel, but there's quite a bit of variety of sounds packed into the EP. The ukulele adds a bit of a warm and uplifting tropical feel. True North is in 6/8 time and has Celtic undertones. The song almost seems to dance along.

I enjoyed the lyrics and the tunes are catchy. My favourite part of the album, though, was Kate's voice. It's warm and absolutely gorgeous! Personally, I think it has the perfect amount of vibrato.

Kate is such a wonderful singer. I wouldn't know Kate if it wasn't for Chloë and I can't ever thank her enough for performing with Kate last year.

I really enjoyed Kate's debut EP!

I hope you'll have a chance to check it out too and support this amazing artist. <3

Sadly, Kate didn't win. Sad

But they invented a new category for her ("Best Self-Promotion"), so she definitely got their attention.
Smiley

She's great on social media and really creative at getting her name out there, so I'm not surprised she's garnered some recognition for her work.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped spread the word, or even showed Kate some support. It's all very much appreciated.

I know there's some very exciting times ahead for Kate and I'm proud to be a part of her adventure.

To add to the Emer bit, she's in Affiniti with Aisling Ennis (Harpist) and Mary McCague (Violinist). They have a few albums out, but they haven't been very active. Everybody's busy with solo work and gigs with other groups.

SECRET GARDEN fans might be interested in this news (from their newsletter):
“… and we are delighted to let you all know that we are releasing a special new collection, “You Raise Me Up”, which will be released on May 25th. We are really busy bees these times as we are also in production with another new CD to be released end of this year.”
              AND
“Meanwhile we want to thank you all for the continued wonderful support we receive. We are looking forward to more touring towards end of the year when we can raise our heads out of the studio.”
