What a crazy turn of events. Montoya looked to have had a seized transmission and spun into one of the Jet Drier trucks which burst into a massive fire ball! Both Montoya and the Jet truck driver are ok but they are worried about damage to the track. If this race ends Dave Blaney will win the Daytona 500!

here is the video.

Matt Kenseth wins the Daytona 500. Disappointed though, Biffle had the push from Dale Jr just decided to hold formation.... Not a race car driver in my opinion. It's the freaking 500 you go for it!

Danica's Indy car tactics to lay 2/3's back in the pack has been disastrous, though tonight's wreck was unavoidable.  Not once during the week did I see her bump draft or mount a drive of any kind to get to the front.  I would like to see her a little more aggressive/competitive.  She has complained of not being able to get to the front----com'on man!  Others do it every race!  Her Nationwide season should be interesting.  Look forward to see how she handles "The Lady in Black" later this year.

The way they've been tearing up sheet metal, I see more multiple-pack racing in the future to avoid the "big one", which seems to occur often now.

Kinseth winning was fine with me, would have liked to have seen Tony get the victory.  Matt ran strong all night and was there when it counted.

What a weird turn of events at "the 24 hours of Daytona 500"....the Roush cars were strong all during speed weeks.

Congrats to Kenseth good to see him win again. But I will say this. You can not convince me that Biffle did not have a chance to pull out at any point during the final 2 laps. Even Dale Jr had enough to get around Biffle at the end. There is no way Biffle didn't have enough momentum to pull out with Dale Jr pushing. Its not a surprise since he wanted to be a "good" teammate not to mention that Roush was probably telling him that Best Buy getting into victory lane would be great for the team. The fact is that team orders seem to be obviously enforced at the end of this race and that's really sad...

I guess the "cat in the hat" has the final say but as you had said...it IS the Daytona 500.

Ayrton Senna said it best

By being a racing driver you are under risk all the time. By being a racing driver means you are racing with other people. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, we are competing to win. And the main motivation to all of us is to compete for victory, it's not to come 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th.

Anyone who is still looking for their Nascar fix after Daytona might just want to check this video out. I just got done with my own Bud Shootout. Though There is a certain "Celtic" car that was not in the real one. You get to see it in the sim version Wink

Good race at Phoenix today. Hamlin holds off Harvick, who ran out on the final lap to win the race.  Harvick coasted home 2nd.

History made at Daytona! 18 year old phenom Elena Myers wins the American Motorcyclists Association SuperSport Race #2. I so doing Elena has served notice that she is in it to win the championship.

After a race long battle, and draft fest, with the lead pack Elena decided 'enough with this nonsense' put her head down and ran away from the boys. (In race #1 she came up short on the draft and finished sixth.)

Elena Myers to be a guest on SpeedTV's Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain tonight:

How it went down- A Daytona Beach News Jounral piece by Goodwin Kelly:

Note: Some writers are incorrectly dating Elena at 19 years old. Elena is in fact 18 as of November 2011 when she wrote (paraphrased) ...Now I can vote and sign my own contracts... I would add Elena can spray the champaign in victory circle but she can't sip any for another three years.  Cheesy

Elena's margin of victory in the ultra competitive AMA SuperSport class at Daytona.
(The infield of the TriOval is tore up from the AMA Supercross race held one week earlier.)

Arguably the best article out there:

Successful Surgery: Elena Myers Won at Daytona with a Broken Scaphoid in Her Left Wrist!

Article here: http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=47707

The fact that Elena raced Daytona and followed with two days of testing at Miami Homestead with a broken wrist isn't news. Elena was upfront about that before she ever got on the plane for Florida. (BTW, Elena was 2nd to 7th quick in the 6 of 8 AMA sanctioned test sessions she rode at Homestead.)

Glad the surgery went well and she will be back on the bike in two weeks!  Cheesy

Next race is Road Atlanta 20-22 April 2012.

Go Elena go!!!  Cool
